On May 7, Reuters reported that Mira Murati, former Chief Technology Officer of OpenAI, testified in Elon Musk's lawsuit that during OpenAI's development and deployment of powerful AI software, CEO Sam Altman created a sense of mistrust among senior executives by saying contradictory things to different people and sometimes engaging in deceptive behavior. Murati, who briefly served as interim CEO, has since left OpenAI and founded her own AI startup. She stated that Altman sowed discord among executives and undermined her authority as the technical leader. However, she also expressed hope that Altman would continue as CEO and, in 2023, urged the board to provide more substantial reasons for his removal. Another former executive, Shivon Zilis, also hinted at turmoil within the company at the time.
