On the morning of May 7 (Beijing Time), SpaceX and AI startup Anthropic declared a joint venture in computing power. Anthropic will gain exclusive utilization rights to the entire computing prowess of SpaceX's Colossus 1 data center, located in Memphis, USA. This state-of-the-art facility boasts an impressive array of over 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs (encompassing H100, H200, and GB200 accelerators), with full deployment slated for completion this month. It will supply in excess of 300 megawatts of computing power, significantly augmenting the capabilities of the Claude service. This partnership also heralds enhancements in product accessibility: the 5-hour usage cap for the Claude Code paid plan is now extended to 10 hours, peak-hour limitations are lifted, and the API rate limit for the Opus model is eased. Furthermore, the two entities disclosed intentions to delve into multi-gigawatt-scale orbital AI computing collaborations, aiming to surpass the constraints of terrestrial computing power.
