Dell and Lenovo have recently become premium sponsors of the Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS), each donating over $100,000 annually to support project operations and feature development. Previously, both companies had already enabled LVFS firmware update support on some of their devices and will now collaborate more closely with the LVFS team. The premium sponsor status not only provides stable funding but also grants manufacturers permissions such as customizing features, uploading and downloading firmware at high frequencies, helping global Linux users update firmware efficiently. LVFS aims to manage firmware updates for various types of hardware through a unified platform, enhancing system security and reliability. The participation of Dell and Lenovo will accelerate this process and drive the development of the Linux ecosystem.
