On March 12, reports surfaced that Mark Chen, a key executive from OpenAI, recently participated in a discussion with Fields Medal laureate Terence Tao at the University of California, Los Angeles. During this exchange, Chen unveiled the latest advancements of AI in mathematics and scientific research. Tao remarked that over the past year, AI has evolved from being akin to an "inefficient graduate student" to a widely adopted and effective productivity tool. OpenAI’s data indicates that its AI models have reached gold medal-winning standards in high school mathematics and programming contests. At present, OpenAI has shifted its primary focus from excelling in competitions to pushing the boundaries of fundamental scientific exploration.
