Yu Bowen holds a bachelor's degree from Central South University and went on to earn his Ph.D. from the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His research has focused on natural language processing and information extraction, areas in which he has made significant contributions, as evidenced by his multiple publications at international academic conferences.
At Alibaba, Yu played a pivotal role in the early training and development stages of the Tongyi Qwen large model. He also led the development team for the Qwen series Chat models, showcasing his expertise and leadership in the field. In March 2026, Yu made the decision to leave Alibaba and has since embarked on a new chapter in his career by joining ByteDance's Seed team.
